How to measure a wall for a fold-away work cabinet
A good fit starts with the unglamorous details: the usable part of your wall, the edge of the room, and the route the piece will take to get there.
A practical starting point
NookFold is still in early access. Final order and fulfillment terms will be shared before orders open.
Explore NookFoldStart with a steel tape measure, painter’s tape, a pencil, and a note on your phone. You are not trying to produce an installation drawing—just a clear record of the room as you live in it.
The sequence
Measure the space you can actually use.
- 01
Find the clean wall zone
Measure only the uninterrupted area between corners, window trim, radiators, and door swings. Include baseboards or crown molding in your notes; they can change how a cabinet sits against a wall.
- 02
Record width, height, and room edge
Write down the available wall width, the ceiling height at the wall, and how far the closed cabinet would project into the room. Keep the numbers together so you can revisit the layout later.
- 03
Mark obstacles at their actual height
Outlets, switches, vents, hooks, and picture rails matter when they sit where the cabinet would land. Measure each obstacle from the nearest corner and from the floor rather than relying on a photo.
- 04
Walk the route in reverse
From the final wall, trace the route to the entry. Note narrow doors, hallway turns, shared stairs, elevator dimensions, and anything that needs building approval or a scheduled move-in window.
A simple measurement note
- Usable wall width and ceiling height
- Distance from the wall to the room’s main walking path
- Locations of doors, outlets, vents, and trim
- Narrowest point along the delivery path
- Your building’s move-in or elevator rules
- A few photos taken straight-on and from each corner
Then place the work zone.
Once you know the wall works, plan where your chair, task light, video-call background, and daily circulation will go.

What should I measure first for a fold-away work cabinet?
Measure the usable wall width and ceiling height first. Then map trim, outlets, radiators, windows, doors, and anything that changes the flat wall area.
Why should I measure the delivery path too?
A cabinet can suit its final wall and still be difficult to move through a building. Note the narrowest doorway, hallway turns, stairs, elevator, and entry route before ordering opens.
What NookFold dimensions are published today?
